  • 2001 Montes Alpha M - Chile, Valle Central, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley (6/23/2006)

Directly from the bottle this wine had a very Rhonish "funk" that blew off after a short time in the decanter. On the nose it had black currant and a sweet vanilla aromas with coffee added in as a key flavor. There was a great deal of oak present in this wine which detracted from the overall quality of the wine. Perhaps some additional bottle time will resolve the oak. Otherwise it had a fine, lush finish. Very tasty. Thanks to LouB for the gift. [Decanted 30 minutes and needed it; Drinking well now but maybe more short-term age would improve it.] (92 pts.)
