Chateau Petit Vedrines 2001 Sauternes

Large nose of honeyed boytritis, pear, and a hint of chocolate. Full bodied and sweet with Pear, burnt orange and a balanced acidity. Nice! 90pts / $12us

Wow Brian. Getting into the Sauternes a bit lately? Are you pushing aside your beloved Petite Sirahs?

Thanks for the notes. Looking to stock up on some 01 Sauternes should any head my way this Spring.

Yes, I'm afflicted with the same disease but I am getting better at resisting.

Finished the bottle yesterday. It was better! The sweetness had tamed down and some more complexity revealed itself. This is a great buy at 12$.,

I've got a few bottles on hold for me in Upstate NY waiting for me to pick up on my next visit. Thanks for the TN.

had my 2nd bottle over the last 2 nights.

Excellent!

Boytritis and burnt orange, nice length and complexity, better than last year 90+ points.

It was still better the 2nd night over the first.

Burnt orange.

Hmm. That descriptor does nothing for me when I try to imagine it. Now, warmed orange, or frothy orange do wonderful things for me. Could you maybe elaborate on the burnt orange descriptor? What do you like about this? I just tend to imagine it as off-putting for my own tastes/smells..

2001 Chateau Petit-Vedrines Sauternes

Another PURPLE_WIML joint tasting note.

Purchased from a restaurant wine list for $7.00 per glass. No note on the alcohol.

Tasted March 5, 2005. Served in good but non-descript restaurant dessert stems. Color was light yellow to yellow in color, clear throughout. Nose of honeysuckle and acacia flowers. Flavors of honey, apricots and candied pears. Light but decent presence on the palate. PURPLE liked it quite a bit (wait until I pop a Lauferie for her!). Of the four Sauternes I’ve had in the past 7 days this one is dead last. Still, a recommended QPR in Sauternes.

WIML,

A store near me still has it for 10$, one of the best qpr's I have seen in recent years.
