2001 Chateau Gravas Sauternes (Barsac)

Served chilled to about 5 degrees above cellar temperature from 375ml bottle. Alcohol 13.0%.

Price: 11.99

Nose: Somewhat reticent. Notes of peach blossoms and a hint of fresh mown clover hay.

Color: Pale yellow with a very slight tinge of gold to it.

Taste: Medium bodied, White peaches, dried pineapple and subdued botrytis spice. Could use some more acidity. A bit flabby. It improved as it warmed up but not markedly so.

Finish: Medium length. More dried tropical fruits.

Overall impressions: I’m starting to see some of the lesser chateaus at one of my local merchants. This isn’t bad but could use a little more to get me truly excited. I drank this without accompaniment. I think it would have paired well with an apple tartine or other white fruit dessert. Nice for now but nothing I will stock up on.

GA Points: 87
