1988 Chateau Rabaud-Promis Sauternes (375 ml) -- just beginning to darken, about the color of burnished copper now; beautiful nose of caramel, melon, cotton candy; fairly thick, no gaps on the palate, with plenty of peach, pineapple, creme brulee, and honey flavors that keep pumping on a very long finish. Enough acidity to keep everything fresh still; lots of life ahead. App. 94-5 pts.
I think I paid about C$8 for this when the '88s were being discounted as '89s were arriving. What I wouldn't give to be able to go back today and re-think how many bottles I actually want (I bought only 3). How many times have we all asked ourselves
that question?
