1986 Les Clos de Paulilles Banyuls Rimage -- It was getting pretty late by the time we got around to drinking this, but it's a nice mouthful of cherry and chocolate flavours, once you get past the feral side of Grenache which comes out in the nose-- t's a bit funky, not unpleasant but a bit like the sweetness of decaying fruit. Takes only a short time to get used to it, then it's a pretty silky drop, light to medium weight, smooth, quite long finish that fades away gently.

This isn't a wine that I'd want to drink on a frequent basis, but I'll pick up another bottle or two to have sometime in the next couple of years when I need to accompany a really rich chocolate dessert. We had it with Chocolate Decadence Cake w/raspberry coulis, and it was a very good match.

The only other thing that I can add is that "Rimage" means it's a vintage Banyuls; apparently, a lot of wines from this region are blends of different years.
