WOW. We were blown away by this wine. Incredibly deep caramel color which matched the powerful caramel nose. Was smooth from beginning to end and was showing no signs of going down hill.

If you don't mind sharing, from where did you acquire this wine? And, what was the cost? That's a birth-year possible buy for me.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. I had it years ago when it was a deep gold in color. The 1976 Sauternes and Barsac wines were outstanding 20 years ago, but I'm not a fan of them once they turn amber, though some people prefer them at that stage. md, if you're looking to buy some from that vintage, I wouldn't do it sight unseen, as the 1976 vintage is not reputed to be long-lived.

Yeah, I know. A tough year for birth-year wines (of which I have none, btw) which is why I was encouraged by the tasting note.

Ever hear of 1976 Romanee-Conti? LOL I've had it twice- bought it at release for $200 per boutielle- my wife wanted to scalp me- yeah, I know it looks like she did.

Wine searcher reveals a few bottles available for ~ $2500. Hmmm...am I worth that much?

Its my birth year too. With buying 29-year-old wines, storage is everything, but you might check out BV GDL, Montrose, and La Lagune (all available for $125 or less). I've had all three within the past year or so, and all have been enjoyable. Of course, the big game is the 1976 Grange, which I've never tasted, but hope to drink on my 40th birthday.

Hard to argue with a recent tasting note from SFWine, but the only red Bordeaux I'd chance from that early maturing vintage is the Lafite.

I had this recently in SF from half bottle and found it quite good. Light shiny copper in color, with loads of fruit and good botritis character. Sorry, but it was one of about 15 Sauterne that night so that is what I remember. No where near dead though, that I know. I would rate it 92ish.
