Tasted at theJanuary, 2005 BAWE Liore Tasting....

I absolutely loved this wine – in fact, it is my WOTN due to its “intrigue factor”, did not vote for it in this flight due to its utterly unusual character. On the nose one would think the wine to be overly maderized, showing sherry like notes of caramel and nuts. However, the palate is another matter entirely, and makes this wine a fascinating experience. Rich, dense, lush, and sweet, it is almost reminiscent of Australian Tokay. Wonderfully aromatic, and intriguing overripe sweet summer fruits and finishing with a touch of anise. Amazing!

Color wise, you would think it was oxidized. Nose wise it was pure Bleu Cheese (reminiscent of a seriously aged sauternes), but on the palate it was pure Caramel and Nuts. I personally thought the wine was pretty tired.

Eric I had this wine a couple of years back (it's my birth year) and it sounds like my bottle was a little fresher than yours, as it didn't have much madeirazation at all. The '59 is delicious, too.
