2001 Chateau Doisy-Védrines Sauternes:

Great Stuff! Vanilla and Spice on the nose. Ripe and sweet with vanilla, spice, tropical fruit and hints of botrytis in the mouth. This wine is thick, concentrated, and complex. The finish goes on and on. A definite winner!

Though have trouble rating this type of wine, I would place it in the 94-96+ point range (more with age).

This was tasted from a 375ml bottle that I paid $17 dollars for.

I will be going back tonight and purchasing 12 more to drink over the next 10 years.

I just picked up some splits of this for $19.99 and some 750s for $31.99. I think that was a pretty good price.

I bought five 750s a few months ago. I believe it was only $25 a bottle.

That and the DeMalle are next on my list of hedonistic wasting...

The De Malle just showed up as well in 375s. I'm guessing I should grab some?

Had yesterday with Foie Gras Mousse. It was paired against the 1999 Chateau d'Yquem. Opened and left uncorked in the refrig. overnight as both it and the d'Yquem were a little petrolly upon opening. Medium + bodied, good deep citrus fruits, honeysuckle, not cloying with good acidity. Very long and extremely well balanced. 93+
It was very near the d'Yquem in quality, but just lacked the layered complexity of the King.

2001 Chateau Doisy-Vedrines Sauternes

Tasted February 26, 2005 at an offline at Quails Inn Dinner House in San Marcos, CA so brief comments only. Opened and served immediately without decanting in restaurant provided white wine glasses. Color was light yellow to yellow. Nose of clove and lemon. Flavors of lemon, honey and a little apricot. This is good sauternes. I wasn’t impressed with it as much as the 2001 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey Sauternes but liked this one quite a bit. Glad to have a few in the cellar. Hold for 3-4 years before trying again. Recommended.

Hmm...strange to read the other notes. Golden color with a medium plus nose of dried apricot, honeysuckle, beeswax, golden raisins and minerals. Medium plus body, medium plus intensity and medium acidity. Palate matched the nose, but I found the acidity too low to prop up the wine. It came across as cloying. My other complaint with this wine would be that it enters the palate strong and then pretty much drops off a cliff. Personally I wouldn't recommend this wine and I couldn't find any faults in it that would lead me to believe this isn't representative.
