i definitely had a bottle of the wine in the title of this thread over the last 2 nights & i agree with wiml's rating of 91 points (although i don't know about"buttered bisquits with sorghum"). this is very good dessert wine, but i have had many better, all courtesy of davidn. if i had actually paid for the others, this would be the surefire qpr winner @ the $5.99 i paid. wait, maybe not, i had the tokay a few nights ago & i agree with board_o, i liked it better, so maybe it is the qpr winner at $6.99. by the way y'all, i took three quarters of a bottle down to stratta & had some with their foie gras. it was a very good pairing. now if someone would just write a tasting note on the tokay, i could throw my comments on there instead of having to take notes myself . i guess i'll have to open another bottle &concentrate.

Amber/orange/copper colour. Aromas of orange rind, alcohol, caramel. Fullb-bodied, with burnt caramel, orange peel. Moderate finish, 30s, with burnt caramel notes. 88 points (07/31/2005).

At the Toronto offline.

Very hot nose of caramel. Rich, concentrated, powerful. 92

I believe we're confusing releases. While all NV, the mix changes as does the quality and taste, albeit not by large amounts.

I'm sure that's so. I bought this right after the WA scored it a 97.

I had half a bottle last night. Nose of raisins and caramel, with a rich bourbon color. Superb.

I am going to drink the second half tonight.

The second half was just as good as the first. I am definitely going to pick up more of this.

Opened another bottle up on Friday night. Still very much a crowd pleaser (although one guy thought it was too sweet).

I've got half a bottle that I am hoping to finish off tonight.

I purchased my first Buller Tokays and Muscats back in late 2002. Haven't had one in awhile... anyone have a timetable for these? I believe parker said 10 years?

I honestly dont think these wines have a timetable. I believe they will drink well for as long as you wish to hold them (within reason) without improving, but also without declining.

I agree with Eric. I bnought a bunch of the Muscats and Tokays and have yet to detect any difference with age. In fact, there seems to be no bottle variation either.

I also don't think that they are going to improve with time (not that they need much improvement).

For the first time last Saturday we opened a disgustingly corked bottle of this wine. Otherwise they've been very good.

I picked up a bottle of the Muscat from Costco and like the Tokay I'm finding I don't want to drink these. There is no acidity to cut through the cough syrup. There are no rough edges, but the wine just isn't interesting to me. I opened a '88 Rabaud-Promis and never had any desire to go back to the Muscat.

Purchased from Costco for $11.xx. Tasted at an offline. (This was the recently released version of this wine)

Lots of honey and molasses on the palate. Small amount of heat on the back palate. Almost sherry or port like without the pruniness. I absolutely disagree with Parker's 97 point rating. BD90 (at most) I will not be buying anymore of this.

I've also found many of these Aussie stickies to be too sweet, too much brown sugar, maple syrup and molasses w/out enough counterbalancing acidity or bite for my taste. Even the Buller Calliope, while not unenjoyable, is not something I'd seek out or purchase again. The biggest exception to my general impression has been the Chambers Grand Muscat, which is pricey but one of the best dessert wines I've ever had. Really phenomenal.

I brought a bottle of the Chambers Special Muscat [since renamed Grand Muscat ] to the vc dinner this past weekend. It was delish. The Rare is even better, but over $100.00.

pizinah, I agree, most of the basic [Fine etc] stickies are very good, but imperfect. Of course, whaddaya want for $15.00?

That's a good point! I was thinking more of the $40-100 Aussies stickies I thought weren't worth the $$, including the 100-point Calliope. That Chambers Grand Muscat is the real deal, though. I've had it three times with consistent impressions. Not cheap though. I'll have to try a few more of the $10-15 stickies.
