I can only speak for myself. I think that in order for a wine to be considered excellent (90+) to ME, it must show varietal characteristics. In order to be consider great (95+) it should show what Freud spoke of, terrior. That special something that makes a Chambertin a Chambertin and taste different from a Chambolle Musigny.
