| Liquid Crème Brulèe! This seems slightly thicker in texture than some of the other ‘01s I have tried (e.g. La Tour Blanche, Rieussec), but it has such good finishing acidity that it’s no problem. Lovely vanilla, pineapple and honey flavors just woke me back up from the oak induced haze of the Priorat. And the leftovers last night were even better. Ho-hum, just another delicious 2001 from Sauternes/Barsac. I’m so bored. | | |

| I enjoyed this, too. However this paled in comparison to the Suiduraut I had. At least 5 pts and a noticeable degree of pure Sauternes giddiness and unctuosity difference. | | | |

| I have not had Suiduraut in quite a while, so I can't make a direct comparison, but I think we're dealing with quality differences at such a high level as to be nearly meaningless except in the context of a "great" vintage. It's great to have Coutet in the cellar, as it will be a stunning wine (heck it IS a stunning wine) with some serious bottle age.
As for the Suiuraut...oof!

| Had this after the Turkey on T-Day. It seemed heavier than other 01's I have had and while the acidity was present on the finish it seemed a bit disjointed. Perhaps needs some cellar time. The DV drinks better for me right now. This was almost bordering on cloying...almost. | | | |

| Interesting Bob. I have had virtually the opposite reaction, finding the D-V much sweeter and heavier than the Coutet. Ah well, it's more fun if we disagree. | | | |

| To amplify, the DV was more elegant or seemed so by my palate. The Coutet had greater depth of flavor and will most likely age a lot longer and in fact by my palate needs some time in the cellar. The Coutet had this heavy entry and almost cloying midpalate and then the finish was very acidic (prominent). The DV was more seamless and the transitions not noticeable. The entry was light and elegant and the flavors were fresh and not as pumped up as the Coutet. I think the Coutet will be a stunner in about 8-10 years. I was unsure how I would like the "bigger" 01 Sauternes/Barsac this early and now I know not to touch the others and stick to the likes of DV. Of course, a one bottle sample is not always the best indicator. | | | |

| Opened at the beginning of dinner and finally got around to it about 3 hours later. Showed hints of what it could be, but this really needs more time in the bottle. Sweet, balanced and aromatic. Fairly thick with a good finish. | | | |

| My recent tastes of 2001 Sauternes/Barsac have showed wines really shutting down. None of them have had the same pleasure factor that they showed on release.
I basically wasted a 750 of Suduiraut at an offline two months ago. Time to let them all sleep.

| I normally like Sauternes fairly young, while still light to medium golden in color, but the few 2001s I've tasted all needed time.
Coutet, Climens, and Suduiraut are favorites of mine from most vintages. They're a fraction of the cost of d'Yquem and a bit less than Rieussec while still possessing great character and concentration.

| Light gold color. Lots of tropical and citris fruits on the nose. A failry thick wine with a nice finish. While still tasty now, I'm going to let the rest of them sleep as I think this will evolve nicely. | | | |

| From a 375.
This is good but primary and may be closed down. Clear, bright light yellow color with clear rim. Nose of honeysuckle, pineapple and guava, with a touch of citrus.
On the palate, disjointed, with a tropical fruit component and the sugarcane component (sweetness) not fully integrated. This needs 4-5 years, but undoubtedly a great Coutet (for the modern era). Medium weight, medium finish.
90 points today, maybe 94 in the future.
