1999 Doisy-Vedrines Sauternes

Picked this up at one of my local wine shops. I have developed a real taste for Sauternes over the last few years and I’ve usually enjoyed the offererings from this producer. It is in my opinion the best of the lesser Chateau’s and can rival the better ones on occasion. Served in a small crystal stem. Unfortunately I don’t have the Sauternes Somms, but when I buy some, this will be the first type in my collection. Alcohol 13.5% Paid $16.99 for a 375 ml.

Color: Rich golden coloring. Almost the color of a rich bock beer without the bubbles. Leaves multiple thin legs on the glass when swirled.

Nose: English toffee with a hint of citrus. Also has that telltale botrytis aroma.

Taste: Really nice and heavy, full-bodied. Some of the lesser Chateau’s seem a bit light but this particular wine is really nice. Hints of butterscotch, cantaloupe, grapefruit and quite a lot of botrytis character. It’s very smooth and supple. Yummy.

Finish: Impressive especially considering the price point. A good 45 seconds.

All in all a good bargain in my book. I’m going to pick up several half-bottles for the cellar. Yes I know that boycotts are all the rage, but I do love Sauternes and I’ve found nothing in the world that compares to them. To soothe my conscience, I’m going to pick them up before the next UN resolution is voted on! On a scale of 1-10 for QPR, I can honestly give this an 8 or 9. If you have a chance, pick some up. I don’t think it will disappoint you.

GA-
I hope you scored some '01 futures. If not, I have this (and others). I'm sure there will be availability especially in your neck of the woods next year, but if not, there's always a bottle or two I can get to you.

I bought a case of 750"s but thanks for the offer. I think I'll have to split mine with my brother. BTW, I've seen futures on the 2001 for as low as $13 for a 375. Probably worth it.

I know, I know, some say don't buy Sauternes futures. If you are doing for investment I agree. If you want to add a delightful wine to your cellar, I say go for it.
