Tasted last night at Dinner w/Doc at Olivetto:

I’m not so hot on writing notes on Port, even though I love a nice aged version. The thing that really struck me about this wine was how fresh and youthful it was drinking! Vibrant fruit, plenty of acidity and tannins, and no hint of slowing down. A real treat, thanks skwid!

Yeah, this bottle tasted particularly young. I've had two other 1955 Taylor's and they were nicely aged. This one seemed like it could go another 20 years before it reached that stage.

speaking of taylor. i have some 00 and i have it scheduled to be opened in 2020. do you guys think that is way too early?

I would say yes, way too early but I've heard that the 2000 vintage is an early drinking one. I have only tasted one 2000 port (Smith Woodhouse). So I'm not really a good person to ask specifically about this.

A bunch of us had the 2000 Taylor at my offliner this past March. While it was young it showed very well, mid to upper 90's ratings... Board-O and I had the 2000 Warre's 2 months ago, it also showed very well considering that it's very young and it wasnt even decanted...

This bottle tasted particularly young because of the tannins, but my concern is that there was a lack of concentration in fruit. I expected alot more fruit and sweetness with this wine. The question is whether the tannins will ever calm down in time for the real fruit to come through.

Lafon, if you remember the last bottle we had at Olivetto tasted much more refined. It seemed to be mored aged and less harsh (definitely the alcohol was not as prominent). In th 1955 vintage the port was still being shipped to England and bottled by the various shippers so there could be variations because of that. Since the late 60's/early 70's port is bottled in Portugal. The fill on the bottle on Saturday had a good fill level up into the neck. I've got two more bottles just like it.
