1977 Warre's Vintage Port -- ya gotta love a dinner guest who brings this along (I quickly put away an '85 Croft that I was going to open). This is still dark and deep, with surprisingly little bricking on the edges; nose opened up over an hour or so in the decanter to reveal tar and dark berry aromas; rich cherry, blackberry, anise flavors; still fairly tannic on a medium-long finish; some heat emerges on the finish as well. The bottle claims 21% alcohol, and it shows.

This wine is a recent arrival from Portugal, so I'm assuming better than average storage; perhaps it's a bit backward in its evolution. I'm also assuming that this is a library release, and that it'll probably we available around North America for the next while. I'm picking up a bottle this week to put away for a few years; the tannins and density of color, as well as lots of fruit still, bode well for additional cellaring. I'm not certain whether the heat on the finish suggests future problems, but that's one I'll risk. App. 90 pts., maybe more in time.

Thanks for the TN Seaquam. I see BCLB still offers this port at $125 Cdn.
Mind you, I just picked up 2 bottles of 1985 Grahams (WS-96pts) for $135.

I had this last month. I found the heat calmed down a bit on day two, fwiw.
