2000 Graham's Vintage Port. Douro Valley, Portugal. 20% alcohol. $40 (per half bottle)

Graham's has traditionally been my favorite Port producer (eventhough Taylor's is arguably of higher quality). 1963 and 1977 Graham's are the obvious highlights of Graham's recent oeuvre. The 2000 is not as good as either of those wines and at present reminds me of a less structured 1985 (or perhaps more properly a slightly juiced 1980). I tasted this wine over a 24 hour period after splash decanting. Opaque red purple color which lightens at the edge. Few very thick and slow moving legs with slight pigmentation. Alcohol, white pepper, and indistinctive and reticent red fruit aromas. Sweet and grapy in the mouth with peppery overtones. The wine has plenty of drying tannins in the moderately long finish. The wine became tired after 24 hours (not a good sign imo). 92 points (but more than usually I am giving anticipated credit for the history of well this wine develops over time). Drink 2020 to 2030+.

I tend to love truly good Vintage Port and this Grahams is not a dissappointment. I agree 100% with your assessment of this wine Jones, particularly the sweet grapey taste with peppery overtones. Opaque purple and red edged indeed with marvelous extract.....mouthcoating. 95 points to me however.

Funny you should recommend drinking this from 2020 to 2030+. I have my next bottle of this scheduled for 2020. This makes me feel a little more confident in my decision.

I like the Taylor a tad more personally.

I think the Taylor is considerably better than the Grahams.

I intend to buy 2 to 1 Taylor versus Grahams. I'll finish the Grahams first and finish up with the Taylors, should I live that long.

I've not had the Taylor, but the '00 Graham's is the best vintage Port I've ever tasted.
