WOW...the closest thing I have tasted to a German style riesling from California.

The color is a pale, clear yellow. It smells of lime, flint, stone, metal, yeast and a little peach. Light body with a slightly acidic feel. The wine feels like a crisp Spatelese. The taste is somewhat muted with lime and yeast being predominant. The acid hits followed by slight sweetness, then the flavors then the sweetness followed by a long crisp (but not too acidic) finish.

This wine is still a little young as demonstrated by the strong acid and yeast taste (which hadn't dissipated after an hour in the glass). It's not the over-the-top fruit bomb that California always seems to turn out.

My wife swirrled, sniffed, and asked "Where is this from? Germany?" We were both taken aback by how earthy, well balanced, and even too acidic this wine is. Of the 30-40 other bottles of Cali. rieslings we've enjoyed (I'm talking about high-quality producers, not Fetzer), we have never come across a bottle like this. Maybe there IS hope for riesling in California. Early in the century Carnaros was primarily planted in Riesling...now it's all Shitonnay. Too bad Casa Nuestra can't produce more of this. I think it would sell quite well!

My ratings? Well...if it were German, I'd give it 86-87, but since it's Californian, I'll rate it 92 (Yes, I'm THAT disapointed by most Cali rieslings).
