Having read sometime back that Trader Joes negotiated a deal to purchase excess stored wine from bankrupt De Loach for the equivalent of something like $3.50 wholesale, I’ve been on the lookout hoping to find some good deals. The Pinot Gris appears to be the first to hit the shelves, and to my surprise they have marked this up to $7.99 (seems high if the published wholesale cost is only $3.50). Anyhow, sorry to say that even if I were buying this for $3.50 it would not be a good value. This wine is severely lacking in fruit, presenting itself as tart, acidic and somewhat alcoholic on the biting palate. Steely and lean, it might hold hope if they were able to coax some flavor and richness from the grapes, but sadly they failed to do so. 78 points, spend your money elsewhere.
