| - 2007 Melville Viognier Estate Verna's - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (8/9/2008)
Popped and poured. Medium gold. Delightful aromas - chock full of stone fruits (peach, nectarine), pear, wet stone, hint of lees, and a distinct floral note. Medium to full in the mouth, this Viognier is packed full of exotic flavors....peach, citrus.....really a fruit cocktail of sorts in the glass. However, this wealth of fruit is backed by an obvious minerality plus well balanced acidity.....which pushes the finish on and on. This is the wine I want waiting for me in Hawaii immediately after exiting the plane.......throw a lei around my neck and hand me a glass of 2007 Melvillle Voignier to go with the tropical aromas of plumeria and orchids...... Really, this has to be one of the best examples of CA Viognier I've ever tasted. I see no reason to argue with RMP's 94 points. Unequivocally one of the best QPR white wine selections of 2008. | Oh, that's good to hear Vine. I usually enjoy these. I've never scored these that high, but...
Locally these have not been available the last couple of years. I am not sure what happened, but I have not seen these lately.

| LCC, this is the best vintage of Melville's Viognier I've tasted, I would definitely try and source some. I just can't recall tasting a new world Viognier with this amount of aromatics, including previous vintages from Melville.
And that's too bad they aren't appearing locally......what's strange is when I purchased the Viognier yesterday I also noticed my local store had some of the Melville Pinot SVD's on their shelves too, usually never see them around here, typically just Estate and the Viognier........maybe I'll have to scoop some up while they're still available!

Can't argue with anything I previously described last month. Just an amazing Viognier. If you love a multi-faceted white wine that borders on the exotic wrapped in a concentrated veil of fruit & minerality....well, this is definitely for you! If you like wines that are "steely" with little fruit than I would recommend looking elsewhere. (94 pts.)
