| Good wine. The wine is super-creamy with notes of flowers, caschews, hazelnuts, a little vanilla, and pear and peach. The creamyness of this wine is the overriding component on the palate blending the flavors together so that they are less distinguishable from one another than you might, ideally, like. The finish is long and buttery. This would go perfectly with a seafood in butter sauce. This is certainly not going to be mistaken for a Burgundy any time soon, but it would be an excellent choice for a person who wanted CA Chard, but wasn't interested in being bombarded with fruit or oak. Not a deeply nuanced or subtle wine, but classy in its own way. 91.5

| 2002 Newton Chardonnay Unfiltered (WIML93,WA96,NOWS)
Tasted September 16, 2005 at a retail tasting. Not sure when the bottle was opened but served in Riedel restaurant styled stems. Typically a winner for the WIML palate and this vintage does not disappoint. Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of vanilla, spice, cream and chunky pineapple. Flavors of toast, butter, nutmeg. Creamy texture on the palate. Can be drank now or over the next five years easily in my book. Recommended. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

| I found some for $32 and passed. Maybe I shouldn't have. | | | |

I would have bought at $32.00 myself. My price after discount is $42.00 locally. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

| $32 is probably the best price in the country. If it is still there I would grab them. I agree that Dr. Newtons wines benefit from time in the bottle. This is the best chard she has ever made. I am going to wait 1-2 years before I open my next one.

| $35.00, Retail.
I am with whiner's TNs all the way here. I will add though to hold this wine. I have 2 more bottles that I will be holding. This wine needs some more time.
Rating: 91+, hold.
P.S.: Parker 96 points. I don't see that @ all though... But, I will be purchasing the 03s which are available in stores as we speak.
I see this as a great alternative to Kistler & being held captive to the Kistler list: as well as Ramey & of course Peay whites.

| Opened a bottle of the '02 last night and this is my kind of chardonnay. I have had the last 5 vintages of this wine and this is one of my favorites. This wine was a classic straw color with impressive legs and a nose that suggested apricots, banana, and pineapple. On the front palate it is a well made medium oaked chard with more fruit and less acid than prior vintages. The back palate is where this wine shines. It is all mouthcoating oily fruit that screams of creme, banana, peaches and apples intertwined with obvious but pleasant toasted oak. RP mentioned lemon oil in this and I agree completely, as this is the last thing you taste as you swallow it. One of my favorite Cal chards from the '02 vintage. 94-95pts.

Exactly. Let that oak integrate! The 01s are starting to drink nicely now.

| 2002 Newton Chardonnay Unfiltered - USA, California, Napa Valley (4/11/2007) WIML91,WA96,NOWS
Tasted April 11, 2007 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Balloon Magnum glass. Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of butter, vanilla, pear and yellow apple. Flavors of bitters up front (very odd) with some notes of pear, crème and vanilla. Medium acidity, medium to full bodied. Not showing as well as my last tasting in September 2005 so I’m downgrading my previous score to WIML91. Drink now. | Interesting, Joe. From what I've read, these wines need some time to integrate. I think I'm still sitting on 3 bottles. We had a '94 on New Year's Eve and really enjoyed it.

| Provenance could have been an issue with this bottle. Who knows. Hopefully I'll get the chance to taste it again in 6 months to a year and update my review as needed. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| My 3rd bottle tonight. Parker's 96 points nowhere to be found. Nonetheless, all 3 bottles were very nice in the 91-92 range. Tonight, no difference, a great chard in the 91-92 range. In the past I've posted to drink or hold. Drink, no reason to hold. | | | |
