    WIML94+,PURPLE94,WA95

Tasted May 14, 2006 at home with Mother’s Day dinner. Opened and served 30 minutes later in a Spiegelau Authentis Rot Wein glass. Light yellow color in the glass, fairly clear hue throughout. Nose of hazlenut, creme, lemon and dutch apple pie. Flavors of vanilla, apricot, cookie dough, apple with quite a bit of underlying minerals. Interesting that when pulling air across the palate it feels almost viscuous and creamy with some toasted almond notes. Good acidity, very nicely balanced. Can be drank now but I'll be waiting a little while longer myself. If opening now don't be afraid to decant for an hour inside the cellar. Should hold if not improve slightly for 5 more years. Based on the $60.00 purchase price I paid direct from the winery I’d say the value here is highly recommended. (94 pts.)

"Holy Mary, Mother of God..."
There is something nearly spiritual about the Aubert wines. A couple weeks ago I served the 2004 Aubert Reuling with dinner, and it convinced a Teetotaler that there *are* some good wines. Last night, this wine was "all that"... there really isn't anything more to look for in a Chardonnay. A very firm palate with apple & pear & spice, croissant-like dough aromas, all mixed together in multiple layers of flavor. This is one of the very finest Chardonnays I have ever had. Yowsa. 97+

I'd bet that damn near 50% of the wines I drink now are white.

Who'd a thunk?

CA Chards and other whites are changing big time for the better!

Very good but no cigar.

I question whether this wine will ever absorb the wallop of oak as it presented tonight. It was quite good with citrus flavors along with lots of vanilla and toasty oak. The flavors were mostly singular without the integration of the 2002. And there was little minerality that was present in the 2002. Hopefully it will improve with further aging. (93 pts.)

Perhaps although I gave it a good score. It lacked acidity to balance it out. The 02 was more balanced and had more minerality. "Brassy" as a wine descriptor just now popped into my head when thinking about this wine.

Nobody's posted on this stuff for a long time.

I had one tonight.  It wasn't undrinkable by any measure but it it had so much lemon on the pallet it completely overshadowed anything else.  Big mouthfeel with some oak showing (butter).  I think I perceived more acid than it really had what with the citrus flavors.  It complimented by King Crab with drawn butter very well.

I sure hope this was an off bottle.

If someone else drinks one I would be very curious.

My last bottle isn't due to go until next year.

I'll try to remember to pop one next week.

I've got to tie a string around my finger though. We're in Santa Barbara right now unitl Tuesday and who knows how many brain cells I will destroy between now and then.

2003 Aubert Chardonnay Quarry Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County (6/19/2008)
WIML92?

Tasted June 19, 2008 at an offline.

Opened and served immediately. Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Wonderful nose of toast, vanilla, nutmeg and paraffin. However, the palate was not as good as the nose showing some fairly straightforward notes of of vanilla, creme and spiced pears. Medium acidity, full body. Drink over the shorter term in my humble opinion. Giving it a WIML92 but was tempted to dock it 1 or 2 more just because the palate was uninspiring. (92 pts.)
