$8.99 at Wine Exchange, right off the bat you know this is a chardonnay with character, as the aroma of flinty minerals, fig, citrus, and pear leap from the glass. With good weight on the palate balanced by tangy acidity, it carries through with a touch of anise and a gripping, yet still somewhat rounded feel in the mouth. An amazing value at twice the price, this wine defines QPR.

Eric, what does, "round in the mouth" mean? I've heard the term many times, but don't know exactly what it represents. TIA.

I imagine it means something different to different tasters, but for me it's in contrast to what I would call sharp or angular. Just means it has a full, plush feel in the mouth, and is often associated with Malolactic Fermentation. When executed well (in a white wine) you end up with a clear focused wine that fills out well in the mouth. When executed poorly, you end up with a flabby or cloying wine that lacks distinction.

That's a great insight, Eric. Thanks.

So can I assume that it also has something to do with softness and acidity when speaking of whites?

J-B - IMO, yes. Softness and acidity, but more importantly, balance.
