Back in 1985 this was the first NZ desert wine I had ever tried. its a cheapy but scores quite well fairly regularly. It is made using Cryo-extraction which I feel limits it's complexity but for $13NZD you can't complain.

Colour: Light straw gold
Nose: Lychee's with spiced floral notes.
Palate: Nice length with an intergrated mouthfeel. The wine slips around the mouth coating it with a soft viscous "carpet" of flavours.
Overall: A great little desert wine for the money. 84 on the Jeremy Scale and a A on the QPR scale

I bought two of these yesterday, only they are vintage 2002. Would these differ significantly from the 2001? I would assume not due to their "engineering" of the wine, but any information or opinions wouild be greatly appreciated.

The differances shouldn't be too prominant but the 2002 should be slightly more complex. The higher tartaric acids were more obvious in the more aromatic grapes, thus adding to the struture of the wine. I would think you will enjoy these slightly more than the 2001 to be honest. I'm yet to make the trip out to Kumeu to try the later 2002 releases and consequently are a little behind with regard to the dessert wines of 2002.
