Amisfield Pinot Noir @
Urban Zeitgeist Amisfield Wines is located 7km north of Lowburn near the shores of Lake Dunstan in Central Otago, New Zealand. Originally a high country merino stud nestled between Amisfield and Parkburn streams, planting commenced in 1999, and now consists of 60 hectares of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. The philosophy of wine making at Amisfield is that wine is grown not made. They use a blend of ancient and modern wine making techniques which they say “ensures the wines are true to their site, climate, cultivar and culture.”
The 2003 Pinot Noir is their second vintage The wine was a medium black cherry in color. Bright and fruity nose of black cherry, currant, raspberry, sweet earth spice, licorice, green tobacco. Smooth and crisp in the mouth....with floral fresh crushed fruits of raspberry/currant/cherry, green peppercorn spice, dark chocolate covered cherries, herbs(mint, sage). Well balanced, tangy acidity. Very reminisant of the Acacia Pinot Noir of Carneros in Napa Valley What a super New World Pinot Noir! Screwcap too!
I bought my bottle at K&L Wines in San Francisco but it can also be bought on-line at Wine.com
