Indeed, many thanks to Futronic for providing this delightful bubbly in New Orleans, I quite enjoyed it - here are my notes:

Tremendous nose showing sweet tropical fruit, citrus, and bread/yeasty notes. Medium bead, and good weight on the palate, a fine and intriguing bubbly. 92 points.

It was my pleasure, Eric. Definitely an interesting wine. I'm not sure if it's available in the U.S. at all?

Medium-fine effervescence. Pear, yeast, biscuit, cream, and apple on nose. Excellent mouthfeel with creamy pear and apple flavours. Medium-finish. 91 points.

Bought some of the NV. I understand it's a blinder so will taste soon.

Tasted the NV and it is nice but I'd rather spend the extra few £s for the vintage. If I was having a party I'd get the NV though.

Popped another bottle of this to start the evening at the offline with bman and the TWC on Saturday.

Pale yellow/gold colour. Slow, fine bead. Aromas of cream, biscuit, apple, and pear. Moderate mouthfeel; not overly dry, with good acidity. Cream, apple, pear on the palate with a 30-40s finish. Drink now. 88 points (03/20/2004).

Golden yellow colour. Multiple streams of fine bbead. A constant stream that bubbled at the top like a hot spring would, and continued for the duration of the bottle, 2 hours after opening.

Aromas of oatmeal cookie, pear, apple, cream, apricot, white flowers (peach blossoms), and Abruzzese artisan honey. Wonderful effervescence in the mouth; the bubbles just dance on your tongue.

Notes of cream, pears, and a butterscotch/caramel flavour that develops with more air. Still very crisp tasting with a good medium-full body.

Lovely, lingering finish for 45-50 seconds with apple and white pepper notes on the close.

A solid 92 points and right up there with the bottle opened in New Orleans last year. The wine merits the full 92 points, but the occasion (finishing my last university exam), warrants a 95. (04/27/2004)

Thanks Jeremy!

Do you have any thoughts on the 1999 Pelorus? Is it of the same quality, or should I pass? It will be available next weekend, I think, in Ontario for around $36CAD.

I haven't seen the 1999 yet - bit of a surprise, still only getting 1998.

Had a bottle for my birthday and it has improved. It's darkened up a little bit and deepened in flavour. the apples are more prominent now and it is developing into a truly gorgeous wine. Two left - holding.

I opened my final bottle this past Saturday - it was horribly off. I was very disappointed, as I've consistenly enjoyed the wine to that point.

It's okay. I've got some '99 Pelorus to keep me company in the meantime. It's a notch below the '98, but still very nice.

Multiple beads, fine bubbles. Medium-yellow/gold colour. Aromas of oatmeal biscuit, white flowers. Medium bodied, with caramel, white fruit, bread dough, and lemon. Kind of tart. Not an overly good mouthfeel. Moderate finish, ~30s, with lemon notes. Not very good compared to previous bottles. 86 points (10/09/2004).

Medium-gold colour. Multiple find beads. Aromas of cream/vanilla, yogurt, apple, pear. Medium-bodied, with notes of cream, caramel, lemon, apple, and a hint of sherry. Short-moderate finish, 20-25s, with lemon and nuts; a bit sour. Over the hill, and disappointing compared to previous bottles. 85 points (03/25/2005).

Yesterday was our twelfth wedding anniversary and Lady K wanted Sauv Blanc, so we had the Kim Crawford.

Tonight is also an anniversary, eighteen years as a couple so I'm opening a bottle of this, I hope it's holding up better than Fut's. Notes tomorrow.

OK, opened up last night and the first thying to note was that the bright gold had become darker. The effervescence was not as much as it was last time and the bead was lighter.

Nose was more apples than previously noted and this was confirmed in the mouth. It has notably changed as a wine but I got no sourness but no strawberries either. Plenty of yeast and a lovely mouthfeel. what it reminded me of was a very sepcific Champagne - Louis Roederer Vintage Champagne. This struck me as odd as I've never even seen this as like Champagne before, a very special sparkling wine yes, but not like Champagne. It is still different enough to be itself though and I thought it was still gorgeous.
