| I thought the South Beach diet just required trips to the local Vomitorium. | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com | |

| I think it is an offshoot of Aitkins. It has been around for 40 years that I know of. | | | |

| Just read the book this weekend. Very interesting. I think I'll give it a shot for fun and to drop those last pesky 5 pounds. To say that the first 2 weeks of no wine will be hard is a dramatic understatement...... | | | |

| I started it today- so far so good... my body could prob. use the 2 wk. wine detox anyway... although I will REALLY miss it! At least I will be able to drink wine on Labor Day! | | | |

| It was profiled in the Houston Chronicle today. It sounds suspiciously like a more "balanced diet" than Atkins. Starts out the same with the two weeks w/o pasta, bread, potatoes, sweets and alcohol.
Sample first day menu:
Breakfast 6 ox vegetable-juice cocktail 2 vegetable quiche cups decaf coffee or tea with nonfat milk and sugar subs.
Mid-morning snack 1 part-skim mozzarella cheese stick
lunch sliced grilled chicken breast on romaine 2 tbls balsamic vinaigrette or low-sugar prepared dressing sugar-free flavored gelatin dessert
mid-afternoon snack celery stuffed with 1 wedge laughing cow light cheese
dinner grilled salmon with rosemary steamed asparagus tossed salad (mixed greens, cucumbers, green peppers, cherry tomatoes) olive oil and vinegar to taste or 2 tbls low-sugar prepared dressing
dessert vanilla ricotta dessert

| The only that works at all for me is exercise. On our 17 day trip, I gained 14 pounds. We've been back for 13 days and I've shed 11 of the 14 pounds by trying to watch what I eat, having wine only once, and working my tuchas off at the gym. | | | |

Your mom's advice was free. And just as effective.
"Don't eat too much, eat your fruits and vegetables, get enough sleep and exercise, don't fight, don't talk back to your parents." I'm behaving with this silly topic here. For those interested in a vicious rant, you can refer to the WS board.

| That book is the #1 Amazon seller right now.
Also, there is a lot to the Hyperglycemic Index that they hold in such high esteem. I'm still trying to shed the pounds, and while it's going slowly, at least I'm never gaining anything. But having low hyperglycemic foods at night is a tremendous help because those foods don't spike your insulin, which later gives you a craving for more food. High protein, high fiber at night = less hunger = a skinnier me! That works for me since that's where I gain my weight... at night... snacking. | | | If you drink wine, you get smarter....

| I still think Weight Watchers is the best. Very balanced, sensible and something you can follow forever and not risk your health/kidneys. THey also teach you tricks that make a difference -- cut down on salad dressing, butter on bread and take the skin off the chicken. I lost 20 lbs. on WW and kept it off for 15 yrs, incl. 2 pregnancies where the weight came off fairly quickly. Must excercise moderately as well. It's only the last 2 yrs. where the weight has crept on, but I'm also older now and less active. | | | |

| I stuck to it for the first 2 wks and lost a few pounds- but not the 10-15 promised. Since, have stayed on it about 90%, have eliminated (almost all) breads/carbs and sweets... except for occasionally on the wknd at dinner. Still losing about a pound a wk. Giving up fruit was hard, now having one per day. | | | |

| It's been about 5-6 weeks now and I'm about 25-30 lbs lighter than when I started. Very easy for me to follow and I'm still losing about 1lb a week as well. Truthfully, my eating habits were terrible!! now at least I'm watching what I eat before I eat it. | | | |
