I am purchasing a chocolate fondue fountain for an event I am having. Does anybody know if this fountain will take regular chocolate? (ex: Godiva, Schraffenberger, Valor?) Or does it require a special type of chocolate that I am not aware of. Thanks in advance.

I have not purchased it yet. I have not looked at it up close yet. I just know I am going to get one.

Once went to a wedding that had one of these. Pretty fun, if messy.

We had one at a retirement party and it was a real hit. At that time they ran around $2000.
I didn't realize they made home editions now.

So I've found out that you use chocolate chips and 3/4 cup of oil and heat it up until melted prior to putting it in the fountain.

Although I'm not having a retirement party, I still think this would be a novel idea but there may be a possibility of some messyness after guests have had a few glasses of wine.

We rented one for a party we had here last month. All I will say is Mess with a capital M! Tastey though. And only one person got really burned.

No offense BD, but just one person's opinion:
Those things disgust me and skeeve me out both from a mess and hygiene standpoint. Think Augustus Gloop falling into the river, but on a smaller scale! Double dipping. Fingers in the chocolate. Yech.

Not to mention other assorted body parts. Especially as the wine consumption increases.

I won't do fondue or "fountains" unless it's with family and I can watch them the whole time. It just grosses me out to think of eating out of one in public. And I will NOT eat peanuts from a collective barrel in bars or restaurants. You have NO IDEA what has been in those things. People reach in with hands that haven't been washed after using the toilet, etc.

I'm with you Lilac. Strictly for family and close personal friends.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is...

Lilac and JimmyV fully agree with the hygeine points. We will not even off a buffet if we can avoid it. It grosses us out with what we see at these occasions. Fingers in the food, folks putting it their plate and putting it back, using their personal fork to take product etc.

If we get stuck a a buffet, we attempt to take food from a dish in an area no one else has scooped from. Many times we have gone home a bit hungry.

Obviously we do not do very many brunchs, or communal Holiday dinners such as Thnakgiving or Christmas at resturants. If its not served to us, we won't eat it.

While I understand and perhaps empathize with the people who are grossed out by buffets, do you really think that your food is coming out of a pristine, sanitized kitchen instead?

Is it a case of "see no evil"... ?

At least I can mimimize the amount of 'non-sanitized' touching. As they say, if you saw a kitchen, you won't eat there.

I saw the kitchen at La Vie en Rose in Marigot and we didn't eat there. Disgusting.

Who wants to eat chocolate chips anyways??? Even if they are Ghirardelli, still isn't my idea of a good dessert.
