I believe I have a pretty good tolerance to pretty much eat anything at least once (if its edible of coarse), but I thought I should relate this expirience. Rawreds comment in the Vineyard Birds thread made me realise I do give everything a whirl once or twice. Well even this made think twice.

I was a guest to an event in Tokyo in Japan in December 1994. It was a very important event and with all the traditional Japanese ceremony's and etiquette's attached. Well the event was followed by a six course dinner of traditional Japanese cuisine. I knew it would be relatively tough but I thought I could handle it, afterall I'd eaten Huhu grubs when I was younger, crickets, crocidile you name it....that was until the fourth course.

A plate was placed before me and on the plate was a long slender purple spotted sea slug. Even sea slug was a little on the outer for me, so while I built up courage I talked (aka stalled) until I was mentally prepared. I got my chop sticks ready looked down and I had thought someone had turned my plate around in front of me. The sea slug was now curled the other way. I was sure the plate had been turned... and then it moved!! It was slowly crawling around the plate.... I just couldn't do it. I appologised and asked for more saki, explaining that I was unable to continue because I was full (yeah right!!)....I had to get Mc Donalds ont he way home I was starving (and I hate Mc Donalds..even Thai Crickets taste better.)

So I start to read the third paragraph above and decide... STOP... I just had dinner. You don't need to read any more.

Last time I was in Japan I lost 17 pounds in one week. Not my favorite. And I'm fairly adverturous too when it comes to food. I gotta tell you, your birds don't sound all that good to me either.

Oh well. My loss I'm sure

I don't think I could've pulled the trigger on that one either, Jeremy. I just don't think I could deal with something still alive on my plate. But the birds, those birds sound pretty good.

TJ,
Those birds were very tasty. Michael Brajkovich (the Wnemaker and MD of Kumeu River) was taught the trick from one of the Chapoutier guys.
Do you enjoy game?

Davidn,
Harden up mate! They're just little birds!Jeez and this coming from Mr Foie Gras guy himself.

What game I have had has been excellent. I only wish I had a chance to get more of it more often.

Venison, duck, squab, and more yes. But nothing more exotic than that. Well, maybe a little, but I haven't found them yet. I once had caribou while in Quebec, and it was sublime.

LOL,

I would've dropped out if they were still alive, but if they were dead, no worries!!

The only fear factor one I couldn't do was the marinated Cows Fetus. That was beyond me. I had Pig intestine in France (it tasted awful, I don't know how it can be a staple diet there).

holy crap. I'd seen one of those in a great sushi place I was at and the chef told me it wasn't for me. And I'm pretty sure it was dead.

I still think you're the king Jeremy.. even if you have a kink in your armor.
