Poll-- How Long Do You Spend Cooking (During The Week)?

I am sure we all spend more time cooking on the weekends since we all tend to have more time then. So, I am curious what the rest of you do during the week. Do you spend 5 minutes reheating leftovers from the weekend? Do you just make 'easy stuff' during the week and keep end to end prep and cooking time to 30 minutes or less? Do you do things on the weekend to make prep time and cooking time midweek a lot easier?

Varies night by night, and with kids, time is a bit limited, but I would say the 45 minute range sounds right

Since the wife and kids usually eat dinner without me because of time issues, I usually wind up just getting whatever remained in the pot.

I don't care for a lot of convenience foods and Joe prefers hot meals, I'm slow, we're on a diet, so dinner prep involves an hour, but hopefully not much more. I try to do more involved cooking on the weekends.

Now my teenagers would be happy with Kraft Macaroni and Cheese or the Pizza Hut Delivery Guy everyday and that's under a hour of prep, but I try to limit that once a week.

WIML cooked a mother's day lunch and the prep time was 6 hours!!!!!! on Saturday, then about an hour on Sunday for actual finish off. Just par for the course.

I work 1PM - 9PM four days each week, so I eat weekend leftovers or a plate my wife leaves for me. Now on the weekends I have sloppy, pot banging good time!

One Hour Plus -- dinner is sacred to me and I love to cook -- besides, who needs TV?

...Love to eat @ home when my wife cooks & with my wine(s). Wenever go out during the week. We go out or order out only Fridays & Saturdays. The rest of the time, we (I should say, my wife) cooks.

One hour plus

If I have to work out 7 days a week to keep my wieght somewhat under control, then I'm certyainly going to enjoy what I eat. We eat dinner late and I do virtually all the cooking.

To me it varies anywhere from delivery to 2 hours. However, I tend to make meals which take about 45 minutes - 50 minutes to make, but which are not so intensive (eg. it takes 10 minutes to preheat the oven then 45 more to bake a potato, but I can grill a steak on my indoor grill, clean some lettuce, and make a dressing while the potato is baking, and still have time to unwind.)

Cooking eggs takes me a long time. I usually don't cook for the family during the week becasue I get home late and the kids need to eat early. But sometimes I'll cook for myself later because I don't like to eat right before I go to the gym.

Eating for one nice meal per week

At least a 3 day affair - 1 early prep, 2 days out.
1 late prep,
1 day of event (maybe w/ assistant)

So that translated too: Day 1. shopping for suppliers, geetting qualifty meat, produce, etc,, generally grocery shop. plus specialyty shops for sheese and seafood.

Day 2 mise-en-place: Make the sauces that will hold. Tedius, repetitive work (e.g. tying infividual crepes), getting bread ready to bake tomorrow. Hopefully complete all but the last few steps of dessert

Day 3 Cooking - Finish it all up. Have enough time to relax with guests.

On day 1 and 2, we are most likely to grab leftovers, steal from my folks who live down the stree, or eat out (my new favoritve summertime sandwiched for this year).

So for the 2 prep-day's 2+ hrs. of cooking for a $4 pork BBQ sandwice
For the 1st day, 2 hours of shopping, som basic time in kitchen: leftover meatloaf and spinach salad

TOO HARD! Next time the mrs. and I will both "cough-cough'" call-out-of-work, and just spend all day in the kitchen.
