Some folks here and elsewhere have mentioned that they don't eat red meat. I am curious as to why. So, here's a poll--

I can understand the vegetarian thing, I guess. I can understand the health-related reason surely. But if it is a texture smell thing, I am baffled. And I wonder if it is something else for those of this non-red meat eating category....

Also, what do you consider red-meat? Is ahi-grade tuna red or not red?

tj, you should of put an option for "I eat red meat - I'm not some Communist Pig Dog that refuses a good hunk of dead cow."

I am also curious of those who do not eat red meat ever distinguish between different types, such as venison, ostrich, etc.

Last night steak
Tonight meatloaf
Tomorrow night rack of lamb
Friday night steak

Which option should I choose in the poll?

I do not eat beef, venison, buffalo, ostrich, duck, lamb, antlope, yak, bear, or any other animal that bleeds on my plate. I do however eat raw tuna and just about any other seafood and do not consider it red meat. I consider it fish. I love the taste of lamb but not the texture.

I am not a PETA supporter, animal rights activist, or vegetarian. I fully support your right to eat the rarest, bloodiest meat you can find. I eat white meat poultry and pork and seafood.

TBH, I have been known to eat a cheeseburger but would prefer turkey burger. Usually when I crave meat it is because my body is iron deficient. However, the meat must be ground and cooked to the point where you would never know it used to be alive.

I never try and be a pain in the you-know-what about this. If I am invited to someone's home and they are serving red meat, I am more than happy to just eat the side dishes. No special main course needs to be prepared for me. I know other people who actually call ahead and ask if someone can make them a different meal, like they think it's a restaurant or something. I would never do that.

I've cut way back on red meat consumption, due to cholesterol concerns. I probably eat it once or twice a month.

I'm just like MrsNull...don't eat red meat or fowl. If it had a set of legs, I don't eat it. Haven't done so since 1978 when I met my ex-wife. She was a vegatarian at the time and my father's entire professional career has been as a meat purveyor. I got sick of the stuff so I figured that I'd try something new. After 26 years it's become a philosophical deal. I do eat eggs, dairy products and don't keel over if I have something that's been made wiht chicken stock. Wife, #2, Mrs. Travelrep is a carnivore and we have meat in the house although my two kids don't eat the stuff. We've had some very interesting dinners....

I eat it all.
Except bear meat. Don't much care for wild boar, either.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is...

.ps - friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon.

I do eat fowl. But only the white meat. And duck and ostrich are all dark meat, so there you go.

I love chicken and turkey, but when I cut into a vein, the meal is over.

beef tenderloin and cali cab is something i look forward to on a VERY regular basis.

but to each his own. i for one do not find cows to be particularly endearing animals.
they are stupid, they are slow, and they taste good - there ya have it!

that being said I do understand those with their philosophical qualms and even more so those with dietary concerns.

more for me!
not that we're running out in texas anytime soon.

I'm of the people-eating-tasty-animals/if God didn't want us to eat animals, why'd he make them out of meat? school.

That being said, I'm trying to cut down the red stuff (mmm...steak) to twice a week or so, and cut out pork altogether. You see, I don't want to eat an animal that has a disregard for its own feces.

I am actually trying to think of something I would NOT eat. Insects. Maybe brains or certain other organs or entrails.... There are so many things I used to turn my nose up to that I no longer do, it's amazing.
