I picked up a bunch of the Tokay and Rare Muscat (RL Buller & Chambers) recently.

What are some ideas of the most appropriate desserts to pair with these?

Yea, definitely chocolate, especially the muskat. Anything thick and rich! I remember having a Tokay with apple pie... it was great.

I wonder how it'd be if I poured some into my vanilla ice cream.

I drink these wines by themselves. Food imo only distracts from my enjoyment.

Rev, I have put the Chambers Tokay over Ice Cream....It is AWESOME, don't be ashamed to give it a try.

Jones, you don't enjoy the new level of interaction that food can bring to a wine? I find more and more I enjoy how a food can compliment (and yes, detract) from what I'm drinking.

Or is that only with the sweets you feel that way? Just curious.

I only feel that way about high level sweet wines. If I am drinking a Yquem or a Mr. K or a 70 Taylors I just want to drink the wine alone. Putting a dessert with that level of wine mars the complexity imo. If it is just a cheapie vintage character port or some such thing then I don't have any problem matching something like that up with flourless chocolate cake or what have you.

If you consider the wine a 97 then I would have it all by itself.

Had it 2 weeks in a row (thank you, Revlis). I stated before that I am Not a "dessert" Wine-person. But, this stuff is good. Smooth as silk. And, I noticed the 17% alcohol w/o looking...

Try the Muscat with Creme Brulee'...awww man!!!!

I was the first week, yes... STW was the second. Just making sure you knew.

Judging by last night's dinner - I'd say that Creme Brulee is a very good match for this wine. I also enjoyed it immensely by itself after dessert.

As for being a 97 pointer - I don't have enough experience in dessert wines to give any type of score. I do know that it smells delicious and tastes even better. Light in the mouth but with sensational flavors of caramel, apricot, and brown sugar. There is no noticeable heat either...

I had it w/o any dessert last night. I skipped dessert. But, had the Wine. It was Great all by itself, to me.

Good on their own.

Yea, I rated the Buller Muscat 96+... thinking it was the RP99. Last night, had the real RP 99, the Calliope Tokay from Buller...

You couldn't actually put your nose in the glass. You had to smell it from a few inches away at least... it was SO POWERFUL. I absolutely loved it.
