Today there is an article in the WSJ about cooking blogs and how people are cooking recipes out of famous cookbooks and detailing them on the blogs.  I've been following this one for a while and it is quite entertaining.
 
The French Laundry at Home   (a warning that when you click on this thread the latest entry is about some pig head recipe.  Truly the most disgusting one yet.  Most of the recipes look beautiful.)
 
Citrus Marinated Salmon  (an earlier post that I would enjoy trying the dish)

I like cookbooks so here is a prop for my latest:
 
A compendium of one-plate salad meals and mix-and-match dressings
 
This is a good cookbook with uncomplicated recipes perfect for cooking during the warm summer months.   One of the things I really like in cookbooks is photos as I like to see how the dishes are plated.  This cookbook has lovely photos.  The author has interesting ideas about pairing wines with "salads".
 
First up was the Tuscan bread salad on the cover.  With my homegrown tomatoes and fresh produce from the Farmer's Market it was awesome.   Note that my acid of choice is a Banyuls wine vinegar from France that adds acid without the usual wine pairing problems.  I think Bob Bressler mentioned Verjus in another thread as a similar option which I might also try.

I also bought the French Laundry cookbook but it is more like a coffee table book than an actual cookbook.  It is drool-inducing.

I've been reading the French Laundry cookbook and although the recipes are wonderful there are really too many steps for me, the humble home cook. Especially considering that my dear child won't eat any of the generally good food that I cook. It makes me want to pull out my hair.

So far the recipes may be more complex than the French Laundry recipes without the same payoff but it's still early.  I'm not familiar with the restaurant.

Grant Achatz left the French Laundry to start Alinea.  He's more into molecular cuisine than Keller so eventually he realized his time was up at the French Laundry.
