This wine is atypical for a Marquis wine. The rich, almost fat palate is there but the nose is more mushrooms and earth and there is a bell pepper note in the currant red fruits on the finish.

This wine is not their typical over the top super ripe fruit bomb. Thrown into a line-up of Bordeaux from say '99, you would like it's relative ripeness. Very interesting.....

Interesting. I don't think they made a reserve Cab from 2002. So all the fruit went into this. I have some of the shiraz but none of the cab.

Indeed they did make a reserve cab in 02.

Cheers

FYI- We met the owner of Henrys Drive at a Grateful Palate Tasting and she told us to stock up on the 2002 HD Cabernet, as they did not make a reserve in 2002.

How long do you recommend to decant this wine. I had onebottle ( I had a glass), the wine was not impressive: lots of alcohol.

Bought a case of this and after it was opened for one day got the smell of nail polish remover. Is that a bad sign?

I opened the bottle, decanted for 1 hour and poured the wine back into the bottle. Tried from the bottle 24 hours later: almost nothing to smell (alcohol), tastes like shiraz..Still not good...

Very enjoyable. Plush, velevety mouthfeel. More flavors from the red fruit spectrum than I remembered. Good concentration. Drinking very well right now. (93 pts.)
