Tasted at Davidn's cellar party...

Wow this wine was throwing some sediment! Seemed old world to me, with that sort of brett stink that actually accentuates rather than detracts from a wine. Black cherries and earth notes were dominant, and this finished long and fine, my #2 of the flight. 93 points

eric,

in you opinion, is this wine worth the price of admission?

Would you say to hold on to this for a bit longer then, EW?

IIRC, Davidn brought this to an offliner back in May. I was lucky enough to take home the wines that were not finished, including this. There was about 1/3 left and the following day I finished it, it was awesome...Like EW said, give it time...

Jammy fruits, whiskey barrel, banana and vanilla(american oak) which follows through on the palate. Balanced and young, this stood out like a sore thumb in the company.

I would give it a few hours. If it's still closed down cork it and save it for tomorrow.

Closed down tight. Opened & decanted @ 12:00 ,tasted tart & tannic, I debated wether it was a bad bottle or not. I left it in the decanter till 2:00, had a small sip and progress had been made but not showing much. Back into the bottle w/ no cork. Back into the decanter @ 5:00pm but again it has continued to open very slowly. Poured glasses on the table @ 6:30 & sat for dinner 7:30 or so & consumed over the next 2 hours . It did get progressively better thru the evening but even on the last sip it was one tight tannic monster. I have to believe in its time it will be delicious but last night was definetly to soon. The Penfolds website even reccomends waiting until 2007 @ the earliest. An educational evening if nothing else. Also had a 1997 Beringer Private reserve this night that was very good.
