It's late, so this is a quick one.

Really dark ruby color
Dark fruit and vanilla nose
The palate is exceptionally smooth considering it's %16.0 alcohol. Very surprising. Much more complexity and balance than I would have guessed. Super concentrated dark fruits that show some earthy tones that also were unexpected. While this isn't a super complex wine with tons of nuances, it is quite an enjoyable wine that is a refreshing change from those single dimension Aussy bombs. Nice fruity finish with an oak based aftertaste that is quite nice. Can Drink now.. not sure it'll improve too much with time, but the tannins will hold it in your cellar for awhile.
Rev rates it: 92

2001 Greenock Creek Apricot Block Shiraz
16% alocohol

Decanted then tasted at 30 minutes and consumed over the following 2.5 hours. Initially showing powerful aromatics this wine slowed down to produce just simple aromas of dark berries and road tar. Deep opaque purple/ ruby coloration this medium-full bodied wine displays a balanced mouthfeel with flavors of blackberry, dusty soil, road tar, and underbrush. Showing some alcohol early on, later tastes were absent the alcohol. As the wine sits in the glass intensity and weight certainly increased with more evident tannin appearing that was not noticeable early on. This wine will need some time in the cellar. 93+ points

Brad, this is consistent with my experience tasting prior vintages. Interesting how the nose seems to fade off. I am quite curious how this wine will show with some age on it.

I'm going to hold onto my other two for sure to see how this develops. Looks like I had my first bottle much too young (though I love the experience of trying wines young). So I'm glad I have another two. When do you think it might come into it's peak?

I recently tried my first bottle of both this and the '01 Kay Bros. Block 6 to get an early read on them and make sure I wanted to continue to hold my remaining bottles. Though enjoyable now (I'd agree with Seek's 93+ for the Apricot Block; the Kay's was at least that good), both need a lot of time in my opinion to show optimally. I have eleven left of each and will sample them again in 3-5 years. Both wines are definite keepers with significant upside potential if you're patient. In terms of peak drinking window, I'm currently estimating 2010-2018 or so for the Apricot Block and 2012-2020 for the Block 6. Of course, that's a semi-stab in the dark, so I'll be cracking another bottle of each by 2010 to see how they're coming along.
