Yesterday afternoon I joined in with a small group for a Syrah and Shiraz tasting, some incredible wines were enjoyed. The second flight was all 1999 Aussie Shiraz:

1 – Rosemount Shiraz, S.E. Australia
Dark clear purple, sweet fruit, soft and nice. Not complex, but enjoyable and very approachable.
2 - James Estate Reserve, NcLaren Vale
Clear dark purple, big dense, almost port like, showing excellent dark fruit flavors, great balance – outstanding QPR, my #3 wine of the flight.
3 - Mengler View Doecke Block, Barossa
Wow, dynamite blockbuster wine. Dark opaque purple, huge fruit with gamey meaty notes, outrageous finish, tremendous wine - and a unbelievable value at ~$25. My #2 of the flight.
4 - Rosemount Balmoral Syrah, McLaren Vale
WOW. Black-purple color, this is just a baby, but what a baby it is! A nose that wont quite, Intensely spicy, showing anise, meant, superb sweet fruit, excellent structure and balance. Still tight an tannic, this needs some years – I would love to get a case and open one each year and watch how it evolves. My #1 of the flight.
