| Notes from an Australian Shiraz tasting, held April 8th, 2003
A dense dark purple color. The aromas are nearly impossible to coax out of the glass! What I do get is nice, but quite muted – even over time. Woodspice, oak, some pepper and a touch of stink/funk. Certainly the most closed of the flight, I would give this plenty of time to develop. My rating was 5th in the flight at 87+, will likely improve with several years age, drink 2006-2014. | | | 2008: the end of an error |

| Tasted 1/3/04 at the home of davidandrose.
If this one was shut down for Eric, it is opening back up. Still a little bit reticent, and not acting like the typical Aussie fruit bomb. A little bit of heat on the nose and palate (a common observation for me with the Aussies) detracted a little bit from overall enjoyment. Prominent oak, but not overbearing.
Give it another year or so before trying again.

Turkey Flat is never a 'typical Aussie fruit bomb', if there is such a thing.
Very old vines and very sympathetic wine making means it is balanced, structured generally, and long lived. Give it a couple of years at least.
Also 1999 produced structured and relatively long lived barossa Shiraz in general. | | | |
