  • 2004 Kangarilla Road Zinfandel - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale (9/25/2008)
Unscrewed and poured. Deep purple hue. Fairly expressive nose of blackberry, blueberry, plus black & white pepper. Medium body with plus acidity. Started to integrate after a good 45 minutes in glass with real Zinfandel characteristics coming through on the spicy finish. Very enjoyable, maybe just a shade less than outstanding. However, at $17.95 retail this Aussie puts many overpriced, over-oaked, American Zins to shame. And again, I want to emphasize that this truly tastes like Zinfandel, not just another superficially fruity Aussie that has little true varietal flavor showing. (88 pts.)

Thanks for the note! I'd been curious about Aussie Zins, but haven't tried one yet.
