  • 2005 Jim Barry Cabernet Sauvignon The Cover Drive - Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley (9/14/2008)
Popped and poured. Dark, almost inky purple hue. Forward aromas of cassis, plum, eucalyptus and spice set the table. Medium-plus on the palate with great concentration. Black fruits, ripe cherry, bell pepper, black pepper, herbs and a slight hint of raisin coat the palate. Tannins are quite smooth. Really nice example of Australian Cabernet, and comes off as a kind of hypothetical Margaret River/Coonawarra hybrid, with cool climate vegetal notes nicely offset by warmer climate fruit that almost veers towards jammy......but not quite. Exceptional QPR. Should be even better in 2-4 years. (90 pts.)
