• 2005 The Australian Premium Wine Collection Grenache Tir Na N'og - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale (8/25/2008)
  Popped and poured. Dark purple hue. Various ripened fruit aromas jump from glass with expressive hints of hoisin sauce plus hints of pepper and spice. Medium to full in mouth it is immediately apparent that this is a big, jammy Grenache.........and to me, much different compared to previous vintages, the over-ripe fruit in this wine is much more like a Spanish Grenache from a hot year like 2003. The palate is coated by raspberry, soy, raisin, tar, currant-paste, black licorice and more..........seemed to evolve and change in odd, unexpected ways while in glass.........at certain points I even picked up flavors of ruby red grapefruit, apricot and who knows what else! Tannins are unobtrusive, even kept in the background by the formidable fruit. Clearly this is a unique and well-made wine but it's hard to say where it's at presently.........theoretically, if Rosenblum Cellars were located in Australia and making Grenache with grapes from a hot vintage.....well, I might then expect a wine like this. Fans of a ripe wine will no doubt love this wine..........for the rest us, maybe we can hope it will settle down with another year in bottle.......... (88? pts.)
