In case you missed it, Retsina discussion is all the rage over on the food and wine board, so I thought I'd post a TN of the wine that started it all:
Not quite as disgusting as I thought it would be, it showed a pale, wine-like color and did not induce vomitting when the nose was taken in. On the palate, it was recognizable as having been made with grapes of some sort and, once again, did not make me puke. The resin note was a bit softer than I was led to believe it might be and had a distinclty herbal and mulchy aspect to it. I was expecting more of a biting turpentine flavor. In all seriousness, this is more of a bizarre cordial or cocktail than a wine. It has a specific manufactured flavor that you either like or don't, but there is nothing in it that would interest a winelover beyond this. I could imagine having this by the seaside at a Greek taverna and plates of robust seafood dished, but even then, why not have something else? To me, that is the big question regarding this wine: Why?

...and Kourtaki is the good stuff! The stuff you find in a taßepna is much worse! It's about £3 at Safeway, I think - over-priced, unless you are a sadist who likes inflicting it on your victims. In which case, £3 well spent.

Yes - a good set of notes indeed.
Perhaps the only Retsina TNs this board will ever see!!!

Maybe Retsina should be the final pour of a wine dinner or tasting -- I mean, by that time, does it really matter what something tastes like? I doubt anyone would even notice at that point. heh heh heh

I guess it is an acquired taste. But they sure drink a lot of it in Greece.
