2001 Vylyan Pincészet Cabernet Sauvignon "Barrique". Villanyi Borvidek, Hungary. 13.5% alcohol. No known American importer.
A fairly deep but rather dull red color. Dried cherry, herbs (sage) and earthy chocolate aromas. Tannins are too firm, drying, and lasting. A decent fruit level is somewhat marred by excessive acidity. Reminds me of a mediocre regional Bordeaux AOC. Vylyan planted their Cabernet in 1992. They aged this wine for 15 months in Hungarian oak prior to bottling. Drink now to 2008. 80 points.
