A fine Loire Valley white for around $22:
- 2002 François Chidaine Montlouis-sur-Loire Les Choisilles - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Montlouis-sur-Loire (8/30/2007)
Bottles like this remind me that I should drink more Chenin Blanc. The color of the wine exhibits a deep yellow/golden hue - aromas of honeyed yellow fruits, beeswax, a little botrytis and slightly oxidative quality that Chenin Blanc sometimes show. It has the richness not unlike a good village white Burgundy from Meursault on the midpalate and has a substantial long finish. For my tastes this wine is in its drinking window right now. A fine match with pan-seared halibut and wild mushrooms over rice. (89 pts.)
