2002 Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot. Charmes Chambertin AOC, Burgundy, France. 13.5% alcohol. $95.
Dupont-Tisserandot owns slightly more than an acre of Charmes Chambertin. The Domaine’s vines in Charmes Chambertin are 50 years in age. Grapes are completely destemmed and cold soaked for between five and eight days before fermentation. The wine is aged in oak (50% new) for 18 months prior to being put into bottle. The 2002 Charmes is deeply colored with thin, lightly pigmented legs. Rather tight but regardless it has creamy and sauvage aromas of cocoa, coffee, tart strawberry and cherry along with hints of cranberries, watermelon, and new wood. Great concentration with moderate though drying tannin and plenty of acid. Quite stern at present - needs plenty of cellaring to soften its structure. Drink 2011 to 2017+. 91 points.
