So many of the burg afficiandos swear by Chevillon, and this bottle is living proof why they do. Though not as sought after as the wines from Les St. Georges, Cailles, or Vaucrains, this bottle was a joy to drink. Consumed with tuna sashimi, miso soup and salmon maki rolls.

Robert Chevillon 2002 Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Les Roncieres (Nuits-St.-Georges, $55)

Opened (but not decanted) at noon and then consumed around 7pm tonight. The wine possessed a dark but clear ruby color, but anyways the nose! Explosion of red berries and minerals wrapped in a bow of floral aromas - utterly seductive. On the palate, the wine shows it's structure (it is a Nuits-St.-Georges), but it is framed by a wealth of well-toned (i.e. not flabby) fruit. Cherries, a hint of tobbaco on the finish, and a nice fleshy finish. Complete burgundy, and I am a happy man tonight.

rating: A- qpr: B+

thanks JT.

ever since jones and the 5th floor turned me on to chevillon i've been sucking up any when i find them (even supposedly off vintages). i've got several of these laid down, including perriers, chaignots and the VV, and this TN just made it so much harder to keep my paws off.

being the person of weak will that i am, i brought one of these along for a one on one dinner last nite with new winemaker dain. we met up at vie restaurant in the western suburbs, he brought along a barrel sample of his amber ridge 2004 RRV. he also brought along an APVIN 2003 PN (i'll have to recheck the bottle then edit the thread for which vineyard). we also bought a halfsie of fiddlestix (they were having an insane half price bottle nite). so why not.

dinner was wild salmon for dain and lamb chops for myself, with much sharing. this wine pairs wonderfully with the salmon, the fruit, minerality and acidity going wonderfully together. the two bottled CA PNs overpowered the salmon (not surprisingly) and the salmon muted dain's barrel offering. OTOH, the lamb chops married perfectly with all three CA PNs, but overwhelmed the delicate burgundy.

pale ruby colour, we decante, and this wine evolved through the nite, starting out restrained but in perfect harmony, then evolved to a bit more tannic grip about 20 minutes in, then evolved again into a wonderful florally bouquet. it never lost the minerality throughout the nite. i loved this wine and can only imagine what this will grow into. must keep hands off...........or buy more i don't often put out ratings, but this was so solid - 93 points.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. Now that you've had your Chevillon fix, I'll probably bring a Henri Gouges NSG to our offline in July. Contrast and compare, I say.

Happy to see these comments JT & Frankie. Thanks.

I just picked up a couple of these on a recent 02 Burg buying binge. I know I'm way late to the game, but better late....

Second bottle of this wine revealed more sappy fruit character, and my what fine sappy fruit that was. I think some air would have brought a little more focus and minerality, but still a very good drink. 92 points.
