As you may be aware, Rosemount have been blowing out some of their better wines at silly prices. 2002 GSM was $10 in Trader Joe's earlier in the year and right now Cost Plus in the Bay Area has 2003 Vintner's Reserve for $8. I just picked up a case at the Steven's Creek branch.

This is the wine formerly known as Traditional; it's a Cabernet blend with some Merlot and Petit Verdot. I'm used to paying $20+ at Costco, so this is a no brainer for me. Fill yer boots while you can.

If anyone sees Mudgee Mountain Blue or Balmoral going cheap - CALL ME!

Whole Foods have 2001 Mountain Blue for $12.99 - an extra 10% off if you buy six.
Cheapest wine-searcher price is $35!

I just picked up a case.

Damit Dave, I don't need to be buying anymore wine these days...

You wouldn't happen to have some TN's of them would you?

You think you've got problems - I've got a case of Schild en route and nowhere to put it.
I plan to pop one of the Mudgees if not tonight then certainly this weekend.
The Vintner's Reserve has been our midweek favourite since I discovered it;
I haven't bothered with notes but you get the typical cassis that you expect from
an Aussie cab with a bit more depth besides. It's very fruit forward, the tannins
aren't aggressive so Ali likes it even though it's still young.

I popped a Mudgee last night just for you. The cork was badly stained; it hadn't leaked but had come close so I checked a few other bottles; looks like an isolated case.

I just popped and poured into crappy glasses. At first it was very tight and didn't give much up, but over the next three hours it opened up nicely. Good shiraz spice flavours with a bit of cassis from the cab. Decent acidity, finish is a little short and tannic. I don't find it as rich as the other vintages I've tried (98 and 99) but then 01 was a wet year in Mudgee. However it's still a solid 88+ wine and good value.

Definitely decant for a couple of hours. Food friendly, but might be a bit heavy for turkey.

Is the vintner's select different from the plain Rosemount Cab? I'm not very familiar with Rosemount wines....

Yes. Vintner's Reserve is what used to be called Traditional. The label looks like the GSM label; mainly white with black writing. It used to be a $20+ wine.
The plain cab has a red and black diamond label. It's a ~$10 wine, in both price and quality.
