I won't receive my offering for another 45-60 days... I'll take whatever merlot is offered me at that time.

The syrah are estate grapes. Due to their deteriorating state and the difficultly of harvesting the vines, the syrah grapes were replanted with cabernet after 2005. The syrah is very limited and is actually the preferred wine by myself and friends who have had the opportunity to purchase it over the years. It is, however, unlike the highly concentrated fruit bombs currently in vogue from California which provide immediate gratification upon release. Paloma definitely has a cooler climate, more complex character that greatly rewards patience. These are wines that must be laid down for several years, but the weight and development taken on by the wine is always quite impressive. A couple of "old world"-oriented wine fanatic friends actually prefer Paloma as their favorite California syrah producer. Very highly recommended.

The 2004 syrah are from estate grapes - but I apparently was wrong in that this was the last year harvested before the cabernet replanting. I do vaguely remember reading somewhere that starting with the 2005 vintage Paloma will have a second lablel for non-estate grapes which will include a syrah with grapes sourced somewhere from Dry Creek. FYI, I am really looking forward to their cab - the remaining cabernet juice leftover from merlot blending and bottled separately in '01 was spectacular.

How do you know that (45-60) days is the time frame? Are you a list 2 member? Last year "List 2" came to me on Sept 26th. I bought 6 bottles last year as a "List 2" member but not sure if that would put me up to "List 1" I really enjoy the Merlot so I will be buying.

Starting in 2005, they will offer Palomita Syrah from purchased grapes. The cab will be great, but it will take the new vines a couple of years.

Anyone know which "list #" they're on? I don't know which I'm supposed to be on (probably the latter list) but I haven't gotten my mailer yet.

Not sure what tier I'm on but I got my fax from Paloma this past Saturday offering me a case of their '04 merlot. No syrah.

I understand production was down significantly over '03 (but quality was up). Tier 1 people will need to pass in order for Paloma to get very far with the Tier 2 list this year.

I contacted them yesterday and Barbara quickly replied. My order form definitely said "List 2" last year and I was allocated 6 bottles, and I bought them all. This year I am apparently on "List 3" which is the next one to be released and will still be allocated 6 bottles, if there is any left. I'm not sure if the list numbers changed, but if I can get 6 bottles I will be happy.

Same here.....not because I don't like the wine...but simply because I've bought too much in the last two months.
