Got an email on this wine today (winelibrary), RP 91 with comments like "this light, pedestrian (wine)...while outstanding, is not one of the most inspirational examples of this blend."

Granted, I've loved a lot of Parker rejects and questioned a lot of highpointers. Anyone have personal experience with this? At $100 "Presale" and 15K cases, I'm certainly not lining up for this one.

I suppose it was inevitable that they wouldn't be able to match the standards of the 01 and 02 in a trickier vintage like 2003.

I love Insignia, do my best to attend Insignia day... and I passed on the 2003. Just not all there, not when compared to the 01 and 02. (Personally I prefer the 01)

I loaded up on the '02 @ $90 but can't imagine paying more than $60-65 for the '03. Another example of a busted pricing model. After the WS coronation of the '02, though, perhaps they can find enough suckers to pay close to $100 for the '03... Imo the '01 isn't worth more than $75 (a bit hollow in the mid-palate compared with the '02).

They make a ton of this stuff. (Actually many many tons ). Usually it shows up on Costco shelves. If it really is hard to sell at the 100+ price, I'll be watching for it there at cut prices.

My guess is the 03 will sell out! The reason is that the "Wine of the year" award has brought the brand to the attention of lots of people that would not have bought a JP Insignia in the past but will now. I would pass on buying the 03. I'm still stocked up on the 94,95 and 97 for drinking the next few years.

In about 4 months they will be selling for $69.00 at your favorite retailers.

Whiie I suspect that the '03 is better than the '00, I've had no problem finding the '00 at retailers for $60 as recently as 2 months back. It's a great wine overall, and for today's consumption, but still a bit pricy on a QPR basis.

The 03 is a huge step up from the 2000. I got some 2000 insignia at $50, at that price it was a good value. Shockingly, Parker rates the 2000 and 2003 Insignias equal at 91 points. Clearly he was giving the 2000 vintage a break.
