Just slightly off topic, but I did find one useful thing about those oversized, waxed bottles that Melville uses for their small lot pinot wines.
I was putting away a case (6 Terraces & 6 Carries) onto the top of my wine storage locker. About 8-9 feet in the air. Of course I needed to adjust the ladder a bit, so I balanced the case 1/2 way into the locker (stupid). As I moved the ladder the whole box tipped a bit and before I could jump up to catch it, two bottles fell out, hit the ladder and landed on the cement floor below.
There was shattered wax and a mangled top on one of the Carrie's bottles, and chards of glass from the heavy base of one of the Terrace's. Amazingly, although the bottles look beat up, there was no leakage!
So, I brought those two bottles home to try out in a few weeks. I can't believe how lucky I was. The sound of bouncing bottles on cement is not pleasant!
