Came today -- I'm definitely gonna get some (loved the '01), the question is how much. Anybody have any word on this wine?

From my Wine Cask notes found on the VinoCellar homepage...

MELVILLE VINEYARDS AND WINERY
'02 Chardonnay Clone 76-Inox R-$30 WCF-$24
-Racy, clean and focused. Good concentrated deep lemon color. Anjou pear, green apple and mineral notes. Very good length. 89-91

Got my mailer yesterday. Wax seal, higher price. I guess it would be too much to ask to hold down the prices when they sell out what they make.

I am tasting it this weekend. I will see if I can't get something put up about my impressions. I am in the same boat as you LCC. One of the benefits of this wine is that it is one that will age for a few years so it is not like your typical Cal Chard which has a half life of about nine months.

Jones:

Any thoughts on this after the wine cask tasting?

A disappointment. Not nearly as good as the 2001.

I gave it from the bottle an 87. Served blind in a flight of Sauvignon Blancs many people would be unable to pick this out as a Chard. The wine will develop with time but still is nowhere near the 2001 at the present time or in the future.

That is disappointing. $28 and 87 pts and indistinguishable from SB is not exactly great QPR. I guess I'll pass or maybe just pick up a couple to have the point of reference.
