Just received a nice letter today from Colgin saying I will be offered the 2003 IX Estate Cabernet in early 2006. Anyone else get this?

There are posts on ebob right now where several individuals have gotten on the list. With production of IX Estate wines ramping up, they now have more wine to be able to take people off the waiting list.

And, I almost forgot - Congrats!

Got mine today. Sure wish I was getting some of the Tychson Hill or Herb Lamb but after so long on the wait list, I'm not complaining.

Congrats for getting on the list. You have probably been waiting over 5 years! Remember that Colgin has a Spring (IX Estate Cab & Syrah) and Fall (HL, Tychson Hill, and Cariad) mailer.

Unfortunately, the Tychson Hill and Herb Lamb will remain difficult to get.

I've been buying since the 2000 vintage, here is my history:

2003 - offered 2000 HL, Cariad & Tychson Hill
2004 - offered 2001 HL and Cariad
2005 - offered 2002 Cariad, IX Estate Cab, and IX Estate Syrah

For 2006, I anticipate being offered the IX Estate Cab & Syrah, Cariad, but not sure on the HL & Tychson.

Prosp, did you order your full allocation each time? It doesn't seem fair for you to be going backwards like that.

For those of you receiving your first allocations, when did you sign up for the list?

Yes, I maxed out each order. I believe it is a function of production and seniority on the list.

Wow. Sounds like a Harlan phenomonem. For the 2000 vintage you get to buy all three wines. In the good vintages (2001, 2002) the senior members step in and scoop up the wine. Here's to hoping that 2004 is a bad vintage.

I know that some people complain about Araujo's system (your maximum allocation equals the lowest amount you have ever purchased), but in many ways it seems much more fair when you are dealing with a tightly allocated wine.

I got off as well although about 18 months ago they told me I would be off the waitlist for the spring mailer of 2006.

Reqesting to be put on Colgin's waiting list will only take a few minutes. Getting on the mailing list is another story! The current wait is 6-8 years, so who knows what the 2010-12 vintage will be like for Colgin??

Oh I am sorry, I did not read ricky's post correctly. I thought he was offered & asked if he should be a buyer. I read it again now.

That sums up how I feels about Marcassin & SQN. Just waiting patiently!

Waiting list patience can indeed pay off (albeit very slowly). I finally made the Marcassin mailing list this year (for the 2001s) - unfortunately it took almost 9 years (!) on the waiting list to have that opportunity - talk about delayed gratification.

Out of curiosity, has anyone waited (or is currently waiting) for a longer period of time on any winery's waiting list?

I'm not trying to Troll here, but are Colgin's wines worth it?

To bring up another case... I have never signed up for Bryant, nor do I want to. Every time I've tasted Bryant wines, i've hated it. Combined with Ms. Turley departing, and I see no reason to sign up.

I've had some colgin wine, and while good... didn't seem to be "all that". I would prefer pride, araujo, even bond & hundred acre.

Just curious.
